I am Doris Boettcher. I was born and grew up in Germany. I have two big passions: Travelling and Taking Photos.
From the beginning of my life I have been very curious to know what is going on around the corner. I began to travel very early on. First I toured Germany and other European countries by bike before spending several months pedalling through New Zealand.
I have also been to the United States, Western Canada and South Africa, but the continent I have returned to again and again, both on my own and as a tour guide is Asia. Since 1981 I have been to China many times, often by the Trans-Siberian Railway, have done the Silk-Road and, since 2000, beside trips through Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia and Myanmar, I have concentrated on Cambodia, where I have been living since mid-2004.
For me, travelling and taking photos means to be open to past and present culture, nature and people in each country I visit. I have been taking photos with my Rolleiflex (first in black and white then in colour and now in black and white again) to keep as documents for myself and other people.
In my first year I worked as a volunteer librarian at the National Library of Cambodia. Only after this did I begin to sell photos. With this I have supported several Khmer people in their further education and I hope to support more in future.
Besides, I have had different exhibitions in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap/Cambodia in the time 2006 – 2010.
Some of my photos were printed in the 2007 “Heritage Watch Calendar”/ Cambodia. In the weekend issue from “The Cambodia Daily” on the 20./21. of February 2010 is a two pages article about Exhibition ” Early morning at Takeo’s Canals” .
If you want more information about me, please see the article “Eye on Cambodia” in the magazine “Touchstone” for January-February 2008.
Lastly, I want to say that I still do a lot of travelling with my Rolleiflex and take photos with my point of view.
